Anything Goes as Cole Porter Musical Sails in at Limelight

ELABORATE disguises, tap-dancing sailors and good old-fashioned blackmail are proof that anything goes when it comes to stage musicals.

The Cole Porter favourite Anything Goes sails into Limelight Theatre (WA) during November and December 2014, directed and choreographed by Terry Pirlo, with its all-singing, all-dancing tale aboard the ocean liner SS American.

Billy Crocker, played by Pirlo, is a stowaway in love with heiress Hope Harcourt – but she is engaged to Lord Evelyn Oakleigh.

Gold Coast Theatre Alliance 2015 Launch

On the weekend of November 1 & 2, 2014, the Gold Coast Theatre Alliance held its highly successful launch of shows 2015 at the Helensvale Cultural Centre and Auditorium with special guest stars Daniel Mallari, Lucy McIntosh, Keiarn Chesebro and Ian Lake wowing audiences. Professional MC Gregory Brown conducted proceedings and Patron of CGCTA  & Councillor Lex Bell and Councillor William Owens presented awards along with major sponsors including LocalSearch & Stage Whispers representatives.

Panto Time in Perth with The Wizard of Oz

A FAMILY pantomime version of The Wizard of Oz lands at South Perth’s Old Mill Theatre in late November and December 2014.

In this version from Limelight Scripts UK, Dorothy and Toto are joined by Aunt Em as they travel to Emerald City to gain the wizard’s help to return to Kansas.

On the way, they are joined by Scarecrow, Cowardly Lion and Tin Man – and Elvis Presley, who has been touring Oz and can’t find his way home.

Merry Widow: Collaboration for Rockdale Opera and Strathfield Symphony

Rockdale Opera Company is staging one of the most popular operettas of all time, Franz Lehar’s The Merry Widow at the Rockdale Town Hall in November 2014.

Set in Paris at the turn of the 20th century, The Merry Widow is one of the most frequently staged and well-loved operettas ever written, with clever witty dialogue and music by composer Franz Lehár. There have been continual revivals in theatres around the world since its première in Vienna in 1905.

30-Year Wait to Play Dream Role in Cats

Blue Mountains Musical Society open their new production of Cats on November 5, promising to present the show in a whole new way to audiences. Based on T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, and with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, CATS won seven 1983 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Lighting and Best Costumes.

Shortened Shakespeare with Pint-sized Puck

A PINT-sized Puck, diminutive Demetrius and tall Titania are among the many characters in Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream being brought to life in W.A. by The Drama Club, IntotheMask Theatre’s youth drama class.

Presented by Phoenix Theatre and directed by youth coordinator and teacher Alethea Bevilacqua, the 50-minute version has been adapted for the students and combines the seriousness of power and love with the silliness of magic and mayhem.

Comic Funeral Surprises in Wife After Death

A SECRET life is exposed at a funeral and the bombshell causes tempers – and ashes – to fly.

It’s all part of Melville Theatre’s November production of Wife After Death, written by Eric Chappell and directed by Joan Scafe.

Set at the funeral of successful television comedian Dave Thursby, his friends and family soon discover they know less about him than they imagined.

Hills Pair Leap of Faith with Last Five Years

Castle Hill will host to the Australian Premiere of the Broadway Musical Leap of Faith, based on the movie starring Steve Martin, and a studio production of The Last Five Years during October 2014, when Hills Musical Theatre Company (Hills MTC) brings the two musical theatre shows to the Castle Hill RSL.
