Two New Comedies from Perth Playwright

Prolific Perth playwright Johnny Grim’s latest two plays, Schoolies and Thick and Thin, come to life at Belmont’s Latvian Centre in November, in a short play season that also includes Eugene Ionesco’s The Bald Prima Donna, presented by ARENAarts and Grim’s own A lad in sane productions.

Schoolies, which I’m also directing,is a fun play that pokes a stick at the sometimes changing values – depending on how the wind blows – of large institutions,” Grim said.

Return to the Original Magic of Peter Pan

PIRATES, Indians, mermaids, sword fights, crocodiles and fairies will come together this November and December as Roleystone Theatre (WA) brings the original stage version of Peter Pan to life.

Written by JM Barrie and directed by Paul Treasure, the play follows the storyline as featured in the film Finding Neverland – all versions of Peter Pan spring from this account.

“If anything, it’s possibly a little bit more gruesome than we’re used to, just like a good kids’ story should be,” Treasure said.

Adelaide Set to Approve: A Chorus of Disapproval

Boston Marriage for Adelaide

In 1999 Pulitzer prize-winning playwright David Mamet conquered new territory with Boston Marriage, a provocative comedy about intimacy and conflict between two women.

Adelaide is in for a treat, because Butterfly Theatre, in conjunction with Burnside Players, will present Boston Marriage as part of the November Feast Festival.

Set in different eras, from the 1950s to the 1990s, with songs from Patsy Cline, Elton  John, The Rolling Stones, Whitney Hoston and more, Songs Back to the Eras  is written and directed by Michael Brealey, a 17 year old with a passion for musical theatre and storytelling. He has gained a diploma in musical theatre and is working towards to go to uni to study a Bachelor of creative arts majoring in Drama and Music.

Antiques Decorate Gaslight in Style

Patrick Hamilton’s chilling Victorian psychological thriller Gaslight is the final production for 2013 for the Centenary Theatre Group (Queensland), opening on 2 November.

This classic thriller, set in Victorian London, was first produced in 1938 and later filmed twice, in Britain and in the USA. Ingrid Bergman won an Oscar for her portrayal of Bella Manningham in the latter version.

Hold onto your Hairdos Concord!

Broadway musical hit Hairspray is Ashfield Musical Society’s next production, opening on November 1st 2013 at Concord RSL (NSW).

Set in the 1960s in Baltimore, Tracy Turnblad (Anita Margiotta), a girl with big hair and big heart, dreams of dancing on her favourite TV show. She lands herself a role, and the interest of teenage heartthrob, Link Larkin (Cameron Anderson), much to the ire of Link’s girlfriend Amber Von Tussle (Danielle Bellini).

Boeing Boeing: Farce Flies in to Perth

Playlovers’ upcoming production Boeing Boeing by French playwright Marc Camoletti, translated by Beverley Cross and directed by David Nelson, flies into Perth this November.

The classic farce opened in London’s West End in 1962, where it played for seven years.

Fame to light up the Beenleigh sky like a flame

Beenleigh Theatre Group (Queensland) is staging Fame the Musical from November 15 to 30, 2013.

Fame the Musical follows the students at New York's School of the Performing Arts through their tough, four-year course. The audience will see the students coming to terms with life and relationships: we will see those who persevere, who are resilient - and those who are not. Above all, we will see them understanding the need to strive for excellence to be the best actor, singer, dancer or musician that they can be.
