MDMS = More Dynamic Musical Shows

A brand new production of Guys and Dolls opens this week, and no, it’s not at the Arts Centre. Coral Drouyn explains why she's expecting a fabulous night of musical theatre.

Noël Coward Comedy Satirizes Social Snobbery

SOCIAL snobbery in all its guises comes to the fore in Melville Theatre’s (WA) July 2014 production, as old views of British society clash with contemporary attitudes of American culture.

Written by Noël Coward (Hay Fever, Private Lives, Blithe Spirit), and directed by Tarryn Harris (née Bullock), Relative Values is a comedy about the Earl of Marshwood choosing a Hollywood actress as his bride.

From Gaston to Beast for Scott at Packemin

When Packemin Productions bring Disney’s Beauty and the Beast to the stage at Riverside Theatres Parramatta in July, another of the large scale pro-am musical productions for which they have built such a name, Scott Irwin makes the rather unusual transformation from Gaston, the role which he played in the professional production here in Sydney, to the Beast.

Beauty and the Beast is a show that holds very dear memories for Scott.

The Drowsy Chaperone Heads for The Hills

‘Roaring Twenties’ style show tunes, Vaudevillian characters and wry, observational humour will combine this June to create a delightfully funny musical theatre piece in Hills Musical Theatre Company’s The Drowsy Chaperone, bursting on stage at Castle Hill RSL.

Hills MTC, a refreshed Hills Musical Society, will present this show within a show on June 12th – 15th, 2014, replete with big musical numbers, show-stopping leading ladies, tap dancing leading men and, at its heart, a theatre fan with an anxious, sardonic sense of humour.

Pulitzer Prize-winning Drama August: Osage County for Adelaide

In 2007 The New York Times described Tracy Letts’ darkly comedic new play about the strong-willed women of the Weston family as ‘…probably the most exciting new American play Broadway has seen in years’. The praise for August: Osage County bore fruit, when in 2008 it was awarded many gongs, including the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

Thoroughly Modern Millie at MLOC

Based on the popular movie, this stage version of Thoroughly Modern Millie includes a full score of new songs and bright dance numbers, with book by Richard Morris and Dick Scanlan and new music and lyrics by Jeanine Tesori and Dick Scanlan.

Cabaret Showcase Winner Stars in Brisbane Company

You may not know the name yet, but Brisbane singer/songwriter Bradley McCaw is certainly one to keep an eye on.  With an impressive resume behind him, McCaw is set to lead a cast of local performers in Stephen Sondheim’s classic musical, COMPANY in June.
