Burlesque Effect at Javeenbah

Burlesque Effect at Javeenbah

Javeenbah Theatre, Nerang presents the Queensland Premiere of Australian play The Burlesque Effect by Wayne Tunks’ from September 27, 2013

Set in the seductive club scene of 1950’s Sydney, The Burlesque Effect tells the story of James – a straight-laced suburbanite with a conformist job and a conformist marriage. When he experiences burlesque for the first time, this world is rocked to the core. Drawn to the beautiful dancer, Honey, James must decide between the life he has and one he can only dream of.

Director Gillian Crow says audiences shouldn’t be fooled by the show’s name.

The Burlesque Effect is not just a Burlesque show, it's a play that includes great Burlesque performance," she said.

“Burlesque is so popular right now, those new to it can experience the energy and the novelty combined with a great theatre story that’ll make you laugh and cry.”

The production features authentic 1950’s set and costumes, and comes complete with a dozen burlesque routines choreographed by Tess Burke.

The show premiered in Sydney in 2011.

“We’re thrilled to have permission from Wayne Tunks to present this unique Australian play at Javeenbah Theatre for its second outing,” Mrs Crow said.

“Audiences will be transported to 1950’s Sydney with its very own social climate and even its trams; they will be entranced by the world that is Burlesque,” she said.

The show runs from 27 September to 12 October. Tickets are $25 and can be booked by phoning (07) 5596 0300 or booking online at www.javeenbah.org.au

Javeenbah Theatre is located on the corner of Stevens Street and Ferry Street, Nerang.
