Carousel at Miranda

One of Broadway’s all-time favourites comes to Sydney’s south in March when Miranda Musical Society presents Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Carousel at Sutherland Entertainment Centre.

Named in 1999 by Time magazine as the finest musical of the 20^th century, Carousel has played thousands of Broadway and West End performances including famous recent revivals; has won more than 40 major awards and has spawned screen adaptations featuring such stars as Shirley Jones and Robert Goulet.

From the magical evocation of the carousel in the overture to the majestic and moving strains of the "You'll Never Walk Alone", this giant of the musical stage remains timeless and star-bright. Other well-loved songs include "Mister Snow", "If I Loved You", "June is Bustin' Out All Over" and "When the Children Are Asleep". 

The poignant story of the faithful Julie and her brutish husband Billy is one of the most powerful books of the musical theatre and perfectly matches its extraordinary score.  It features the famous ‘bench scene’ (culminating in the song "If I Loved You”) which Stephen Sondheim has described as "probably the single most important moment in the evolution of contemporary musicals". Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand & Sammy Davis Jr all recorded celebrated versions of the song.

Directed by James Worner, with musical director Paul Holmes and choreography by Jo Ansell, the cast of Carousel includes Michael Johnson as Billy Bigelow,Louise Jaques as Julie Jordan plus Rory Chatterton, Daisy Cousens, Kerrie Hartin, Karen Moseley, Louise Moseley, Paul Miller, Greg Werner,James Jonathon and Tim Wotherspoon.
