Each year Musical Theatre New Zealand hosts a superbly organised conference (and party). In 2013 it was held in Dunedin, known as the Edinburgh of the south.

SQUIDS Theatrical (Qld) presents Elton John and Tim Rice's AIDA for seasons at Redcliffe Cultural Centre and the Schonell Theatre from May 9, 2013.

Mystery and Comedy Cabaret Style for Bunbury

The Bunbury Repertory Club’s (WA) next production, Mystery on the Orient Express, opens on the 17th of May promising a fun-filled evening of mayhem, mishaps and laughter.

It is a classic comedy that will have the audience laughing throughout the entire show while watching the bubbling Holmes, Inspector Gadget, Miss Marples and the Can Can girls to name a few, solve the mystery.

Musical Parable Joseph for Chatswood

The Biblical saga of Joseph and his coat of many colors comes to life in the musical parable Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, presented by Chatswood Musical Society from 10-18 May at the Zenith Theatre.

Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat  was the original hit for composer/lyricist duo Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice (Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita).

For 45 years now, the show has been a favourite with family audiences the world over.

Divas Come Together for One Night

In putting together a “One Night Only” production St George Theatre Company has managed to assemble a powerhouse of leading ladies for DIVAS LIVE on April 27 at the Civic Theatre, Hurstville Entertainment Centre.

The “dozen of divas” are some of Sydney Community Theatre’s most popular and recognised talents and between them all have performed across most of Sydney’s theatre companies.

Next To Normal: WA Premiere for Bunbury.

Director Glen Perks of the Bunbury Musical Comedy Group is carving out a reputation for bringing premiere productions to WA, having already brought the premiere of Blackbeard to the West in 2009.

Perks’ next show is Next to Normal, a multiple award winning emotional powerhouse of a musical by Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey with a thrilling contemporary score.

Theatre on Chester (Epping, NSW) present It Just Stopped by Stephen Sewell from April 12 – May 4, directed by Linda Lorenza.

It Just Stopped is a more than a black comedy – it questions what we will value the day the world just stops, and what we would be willing to trade for our own survival.

Adelaide Students in Away

University of Adelaide Theatre Guild presents Michael Gow’s contemporary Australian classic Away from May 4 – 18.

Three families head off away in the summer of 1967 to re-enact their Christmas holiday rituals.  Immigrants Harry and Vic are making the most of their time with their terminally ill son, Tom.  Roy and Coral continue to grieve the loss of their only son in Vietnam. Jim and Gwen try desperately to cling to their daughter Meg who is beginning to embrace her own independence and womanhood.

Phantom in Brisbane

When Savoyards opens their production of Phantom of the Opera on 25 May 2013, it will not only be the Queensland premiere of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s most popular work, but also the second amateur production of the musical in the world.

With a cast of 52 and a 27 piece orchestra it’ll be one of the largest productions Savoyards have ever mounted in their 52 year history and will play for 14 performances at the Iona Performing Arts Centre, Wynnum.

Spelling Bee Musical for Canterbury

Canterbury Theatre Guild (NSW) presents The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee from April 19.

Spelling Bee is a one-act musical comedy by William Finn (A New Brain, Falsettos, Elegies), conceived by Rebecca Feldman, book by Rachel Sheinkin and additional material by Jay Reiss.

The show portrays a spelling bee at the fictional Putnam Valley Middle School. Six quirky adolescents compete in the contest run by three equally quirky grown-ups.
