Chilling and Killing My Annabel Lee

Chilling and Killing My Annabel Lee

Brighton Theatre Company (Vic) presents Chilling and Killing My Annabel Lee by Aidan Fennessy from August 23 – September 6, 2014

"For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams of the beautiful Annabel Lee …"

Edgar Allan Poe's poem of love and obsession weaves its way through this psychological murder mystery, where nothing is what it seems. A young woman is found murdered near the ice-works. An unscrupulous publisher has an old manuscript that details the crime. But who is the author?

Is it Edgar, the brooding novelist with a blank piece of paper and a whiskey bottle? Or perhaps his beautiful muse? Will the cynical detective, with enough problems of his own, be able to decipher the truth? Or is there no such thing as truth anyway?

Fact and fiction, love and loss, guilt and remorse, all spin through this award-winning play from local playwright Aidan Fennessy that delighted audiences and critics when it premiered in 1998. With the flavour of a dime-store detective novel, and shot through with wise-cracking good humour, this dazzling play of ideas has been called "a pulp thriller with real intellectual muscle".

BTC’s theatre is purpose-built & intimate, with cinema-style seating. Every performance has the added value of pre-show sherry & after-show wine, orange juice & sandwiches included in the price ($23 adult; $21 conc).
