In Comes Company at Manly

Manly Musical Society celebrates its fifth anniversary year the Stephen Sondheim and George Furth’s Tony Award winning musical
Company from November 21, 2014.

Companyis a musical about life, love and all in between. It follows the life of a bachelor, Robert, who is surrounded by his married friends. In between his escapades, Robert must deal with the question of settling down with one of his three girlfriends, or to continue a single life.

Leading man Sam Ducker says, “playing Robert has been a dream of mine for a long while now, being completely determined to sing ‘Being Alive’ somewhere besides my bedroom has been a major goal and I am still getting used to the idea of performing this iconic role. Company is one of my favourite shows as it has the most beautiful music and is all about relationships. I also feel I share a few things with Robert as I am considered a people watcher too; it is always so intriguing to see why people do things the way they do, much how Robert watches his friends in Company.”

Producer Keith Muir says, “this production may not be well known in the public eye, and it may not break record ticket sales but what you are about to witness is a well-oiled machine. A production which will, in no humble way, show off the immense talent of not only our cast of 14 amazing individuals but of every member of the production team”

Christie Wykes is a full time director in Sydney and upon completion of the Director and Writers' Studio: Live Performance, through NIDA, most recently assistant directed on the premiere production of The Matilda Waltz with the Sydney Fringe Festival, New Theatre, Newtown.

"I'm thrilled to be working on a masterpiece by Sondheim and Furth. Their ability to create strong, humourous characters still speaks wonders to the modern audience. It's a privilege to work withsuch a script and create live scenes in which people can truly cry from laughter in the rehearsal room."

Choreographer Laura Beth Wood has studied dance and performance at Masters and PhD level. Her postgraduate studies took place at the prestigious Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA) and The Place – London Contemporary School of Dance.
