Long before Glee came FAME!
Chatswood Musical Soociety (NSW) presents FAME - The Musical, an energetic stage musical set at New York City’s famous High School of Performing Arts, at the Gillian Moore Centre for Performing Arts, Pymble Ladies’ College from October 2 – 5, 2013.
The show is inspired by the Academy Award-winning 1980 movie and features the Oscar-winning title song made famous by Irene Cara.
Drama, rivalry, dancing, singing, romance, teen angst…
The plot follows a group of students across the acting, dancing and music faculties from 1980-1984. They learn to master their craft and grow up alongside each other, rising to the various challenges that face them.
Among the students are fame-obsessed drug addict Carmen, ambitious actress Serena, wisecracking comedian Joe, quiet violinist Schlomo, and "talented but dyslexic" dancer Tyrone.
James Wallis directs a young cast, with musical director Anthony Cutrupi, assisted by Peter Meredith, and choreographer Laura-Beth Wood.
“In a way, Life Imitates Art,” says director James Wallis, “and I am thrilled to have a cast and creative team of incredibly talented people, indeed many are graduates and students of performing arts institutions themselves including, AIM, Sydney Conservatorium of Music and WAAPA, as well as many who have performed professionally in Australia and London's West End.”
The show features Tom Stevenson, Lauren Paul, Mike Curtin, Isaac Bradley, Susana Downes, Stephanie Edmonds, Amy Neville, Levi Gardner, Meg Biggs, Michael Votano, Chapin Ayres and Jocelyn O’Brien - along with a host of other performers character roles – all singing, dancing and acting their leg-warmers off!
