Community Theatre Conference

Nancye Hayes, Wayne Scott Kermond and Geraldine Turner are three of the star speakers at the 11th Stagecraft community theatre conference, to be held at NIDA on September 22 and 23, 2018.

The Association of Community - an umbrella organisation for amateur theatre - has been hosting the conference since 1996. The weekend also includes the Hall of Fame awards, which honours volunteers who have dedicated decades of service to the non-profit companies.

Little Mermaid Swims into Rockdale

Rockdale Musical Society will present Disney’s The Little Mermaid with a book by Doug Wright, music by Alan Menken, and lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater. The show will run from September 7th through September16th, 2018 at Rockdale Town Hall.

Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen's most beloved stories and the classic animated film, Disney's The Little Mermaid is a love story for the ages.

Cash On Delivery: British Farce for Perth

MISTAKEN identities, slamming doors and a con that spirals out of control are all taking place at Melville Theatre in September 2018. 

They’re all part of the fast-paced British comedy Cash On Delivery, written by Michael Cooney and directed by Georgina Kling.

The story follows a con artist who has duped welfare authorities for years by claiming benefits for the plethora of people he claims live at his address. 

The Ghosts of Ruddigore Haunt NSW Stages

Professional bridesmaids, a character who converses in biblical verse and a village called Rederring feature in Gilbert & Sullivan’s 10th collaboration, The Ghosts of Ruddigore.

Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Sydney are bringing this parody of Victorian melodrama to Thirroul on September 23, Bundanoon on September 29 and North Sydney on October 5, 6,7,12,13 and 14.

Mr Bailey’s Minder at Cronulla

The August / September 2018 production at Arts Theatre Cronulla, directed by Natalie Banach, is Mr Bailey’s Minder, by Sydney playwright Debra Oswald.

Leo Bailey is one of Australia’s greatest living artists, but at this late stage in his life exhibits the destructive effects of a life of excessive alcohol and cynicism. With his house disintegrating along with his body after a lifetime of abuse, Leo oscillates between vitriol and pathos. 

Next to Normal at Lane Cove

From the team behind Lane Cove Theatre Company’s Holding the Man in 2017, comes Next to Normal - a contemporary musical that explores how one suburban household copes with crisis – during August 2018.

One Night One Day at Blak Yak

A comedy exploration of 21st century singles and social graces beds down at the Shenton Park Community Centre (WA) in August 2018, as part of Blak Yak Theatre’s latest offering.

Written by Perth playwright Martin Lindsay and directed by Dr Melissa Merchant, One Night One Day is a modern farce about the chances people take – and the regrets they have over chances they miss.

Greg and Rachel are both in their late 20s, feeling pressure from family and friends to find “the one” and, instead, find each other.

Wicked on a Small Stage

Wicked, the international Broadway musical blockbuster, is making its way to Campbelltown in south-western Sydney with Woftam (World of Fine Theatre and Music) Productions.

The company has a reputation staging big shows in small spaces. Peter Novakovich, the director for Woftam Productions, said the community theatre group this provides audiences with a rich theatre experience and increased emotional reaction, that is sometimes lost in an arena spectacular.

Thriller Death Knell for Hunters Hill

Hunters Hill Theatre (HHT) continue their 2018 season with Death Knell, a thriller set in the bitterly cold winter of the Scottish Highlands.
