Family Friendly Annie Entertains The Shire

Miranda Musical Society (NSW) promises family friendly entertainment with its production of evergreen Broadway classic Annie at the Sutherland Entertainment Centre, with performances commencing on September 10.

The production will be directed by Bob Peet with assistance from Tim Wotherspoon, while musical direction featuring the new Broadway orchestrations will be Anthony Cutrupi. Choreography will be by Katie Kermond, who will be creating new steps for iconic dance numbers such as “Easy Street”, “Little Girls” and “Hard Knock Life”.

“I love working with Bob Peet and Anthony Cutrupi,” said Katie Kermond. “They’re such creative, giving people and with this cast, it’s going to be a lot of fun staging this incredible show.”

“This is the first production of Annie I have ever been involved with and I’m very much looking forward to seeing it come together. Miranda Musical Society has an amazing energy and they let you really enjoy the process.”

Annie originally opened on Broadway in 1977 where it became an instant classic, running for over 2,000. It has since been revived four times on Broadway and received three movie adaptations – the third, starring Jamie Foxx, Cameron Diaz and Oscar nominee Quvenzhane Wallis.

“It’s truly fantastic to revisit a classic like Annie with Miranda Musical Society,” said director Bob Peet – this production will mark his third time helming the American classic. “The characters – based on Harold Gray’s famous comic strip Little Orphan Annie – are so rich and colourful. We have a great cast assembled and I’m very much looking forward to bringing us together on stage.”

Annie remains a beloved classic with Australian audiences – three major productions of the musical have been staged in the last thirty years.
