Forbidden Broadway on Gold Coast

Forbidden Broadway on Gold Coast

Broadway’s favourite comical revue Forbidden Broadway hits the Javeenbah Theatre stage on September 4 – 19, spoofing popular show tunes, characters and plots of Broadway musicals.

Director Amy-Louise Anderson says no one is safe from Forbidden Broadway’s acid-tongued humour.

“Famous actors, writers, composers, directors and producers are all roasted in this hit musical parody,” she said.“It’s a great opportunity for people to laugh at the cheesy, ridiculous elements of music theatre, whether you’re a seasoned theatre-goer or new to musical theatre.

“Forbidden Broadway spoofs 30 shows in 90 minutes; it’s fast-paced.”

Audiences will know all the hit songs – with a twist - from musicals such as Annie, Into The Woods, Phantom of the Opera, Wicked, Spamalot, Cats, Les Miserables, Mamma Mia!West Side Story and many more.

“Our cast are truly talented singers so even if you’re not familiar with all the tunes you’ll still be entertained by their incredible voices and hilarious impressions,” Ms Anderson said.

The musical has received a number of accolades including nine Drama Desk Awards, a Special Tony®, an Obie, a Lucille Lortel and a Drama League Award.

Forbidden Broadway features outrageous costumes, rewrites of songs, and dead-on impressions by an eight-person cast and a pianist.

Forbidden Broadway features Jack Harbour, Simon Stone, Todd Jesson, Trevor Love, Susannah Treacy, Lauren Steiner, Kat Brand and Sabrina Durante and is directed by Amy-Louise Anderson with musical direction by Kristine Dennis.

Tickets are $25. Phone (07) 5596 0300 or visit www.javeenbah.org.au to book.
