Freemantlle One Act Plays Explore Identity.

Freemantlle One Act Plays Explore Identity.

Harbour Theatre (Freemantle, WA) investigates identity with their season of three intriguing One Act Plays, to be presented from September 9 - 18.

Winner of the 2008 (writer) and 2009 (director) Maj Monologues competition, screenwriter, film-maker and poet, Fremantle resident Lis Hoffmann has written two of the plays that will be presented – Rules of the Game directed by Lis Hoffmann and Pursuit directed by Cody Fern (The Enchanters).  Melville resident Aaron Skinner (Oliver Twist) will be directing the hilarious Erica and Me by UK writer Alan Robinson.

Harbour Theatre’s One Act Season has something for everyone comprising both comedy and drama.  The plays feature casts of outstanding performers, some who are new to the Harbour Theatre stage (whilst being no strangers to theatre) and others who will be familiar to Harbour Theatre’s patrons.

These plays will also go on to represent Harbour Theatre and Fremantle in the Hills and State Drama Festivals to be held over the last two weekends in September and will compete for awards against plays entered by community theatres from all over the State.

ERICA AND ME written by Alan Robinson and directed by Aaron Skinner

Simon is unlucky in love; hopeless, to be precise.  His ineptitude with the opposite sex is causing ructions at work as his boss, Mr Collings, a fully-fledged family man, has started to question his promotion potential.  Desperate for a stab at the big time Simon tells a little white lie and invents the perfect woman: Erica.  His boss is so impressed he invites himself and the snobby Mrs Collings over to make her acquaintance.  As Simon takes desperate measures to make fantasy a reality, he unwittingly discovers how women can sometimes be like buses.

RULES OF THE GAME written and directed by Lis Hoffmann

Estranged sisters Kerry and Jacquie Northey come from a proud betting family. But they're doing more than wrangling about the terms of their father's will.  This time the stakes are really high.

PURSUIT by Lis Hoffmann directed by Cody Fern

Marlene is desperately chasing her 70’s glory days as a touring rock musician. Britt is chasing her elusive boyfriend Dean. Their uneasy mother/daughter relationship is shattered by the arrival of sexually ambiguous Paula chasing the woman she believes is her birth mother. Sometimes, catching up with your dreams is not all it’s cracked up to be.
