Geraldine Turner OAM: New Patron for Miranda Musical Society

Geraldine Turner OAM has become the new Patron of Miranda Musical Society.

Geraldine has performed in almost every aspect of the entertainment industry; an attribute which helped earn her an Order of Australia medal in the 1988 Bicentennial Honours list.

Geraldine has wowed theatre-going audiences across Australia in musicals like Oliver!, Chicago, A Little Night Music, Anything Goes, Guys and Dolls and Into The Woods  to name a few. She has won several awards including two Green Room Awards (in 1984 for her role as Nancy in Oliver! and again in 1989 for her role as Reno Sweeney in Anything Goes) and two Mo Awards for her performance as Mrs Lovett in Sweeney Todd. Most recently she was on TV screens in House Husbands and has also worked tirelessly behind-the-scenes as President of Australian Actors Equity for many years.

To quote Geraldine, she has "been there, done that and more!" and in becoming  Patron for Miranda Musical Society feels it is her way of saying thank you to the industry she loves. “I’ve been fortunate to have spent many years of my life on stage in musicals and I’m grateful that my career is still going strong. Miranda Musical Society is regarded as one of the premier community theatrical societies in Sydney, giving amateur singers, actors and dancers the opportunity to perform in terrific musicals on a regular basis. Some of these people also aspire to making it their profession and have their start in amateur theatre, in some cases very successfully!  I look forward to being a mentor to all these people by passing on my knowledge and sharing my perspective. It is very important to me to hand down my experience”.

Miranda Musical Society President Andrew Symes said, “We are thrilled to have Geraldine as our Patron – not only does she bring the reputation of the best in Australian theatre, but a sense of aspiration for our performing community. We are all huge fans of Geraldine and feel very privileged to have been given this opportunity. It’s going to be wonderful to have her on the team and we are all very excited!”

Geraldine said, “I am looking forward to being the  guest of honour at the opening night of Miranda Musical Society’s upcoming production of Oklahoma! on March 19th at The Sutherland Entertainment Centre. Oklahoma contains one of my all-time favourite lyrics in musicals. ”Sweetheart, they're suspecting things" …. more than wonderful!  Go Oscar!”
