Jack Climbs That Panto Beanstalk Again in Bexley

Jack Climbs That Panto Beanstalk Again in Bexley

Just in time for the September school holidays, St George Theatre Company presents a pantomime version of the fairy tale Jack and the Beanstalk, is filled with songs, melodrama, a dancing cow, and in true Panto style lots of audience interaction is promised.

“This panto is so much fun for all ages, and perfect entertainment for the kids these holidays,” says director Michael Heming. “Jack and the Beanstalk is a fairy tale that dates back over 200 years. It's been wonderful to work with some highly talented principals who understand the Panto genre and have just jumped right in.  They've had us in stitches throughout rehearsals and I'm looking forward to seeing that energy onstage and performing to an audience”.

Pheobe Wynne (pictured right) plays Jack, a simple-minded farmer who lives with his mother and is in love with the beautiful Jill. When the greedy Baron (John Edge) raises their rent to appease the Giant in the sky, Jack is forced to sell their much-loved cow for a handful of beans.  After Jill (Lucy Malone) is kidnapped to be given as dinner for the Giant, Jack enlists the help of the good fairy (Zoe McDonald) who helps the beans grow into a giant beanstalk. Jack climbs up to the giant to save the town and his beloved Jill.

For newcomers Toby Powick, Joshua McDonald and Mikayla Convery (pictured below) this is the perfect introduction to the world of performance.  Playing “townsperson”, “servant” and “henchman” respectively they all get their moment to shine. The thrill of being on stage and chasing giants is not something they will forget in a hurry!

“As tradition dictates, there will be boos for the villains and cheers for the heroes, singing dancing and lots of family fun.”
