John Frost Speaks at Community Theatre Conference

Australia's leading producer of Musical Theatre John Frost will be the keynote speaker at the Association of Community Theatre’s ninth Stagecraft conference, to be held at NIDA in Sydney on Saturday September 20 and Sunday September 21.

Mr. Frost will reflect on his extraordinary career, which this year has seen him awarded an AM, and also become the 2014 JC Williamson recipient at the Helpmann Awards.He is also chairing a session on how to audition for a musical.

The Association of Community Theatre holds a conference every two years that is pitched to performers, administrators and directors of community theatre.

 

ACT patron Nancye Hayes AM is another guest lecturer. Participants have the opportunity to dance with her in one of the sessions.

Other sessions include auditioning for a play, developing a character, accents, making props and sets shine, lighting SFX, directing a musical, budgeting for a show, using social media to sell tickets, copyright, costumes, working with children, cabaret and occupational health and safety.

Miranda Musical Society is providing the Saturday night entertainment as ACT inaugurates new members of its Hall of Fame. Inductees are individuals who have provided decades of service to community theatre.

This year the Association of Community Theatre is celebrating its 21stanniversary.The umbrella organisation has more than 150 community theatre companies as members.As well as organising a conference every two years, ACT has a national public liability insurance scheme for community theatre.

ACT also publishes an annual What’s On guide to community theatre with a circulation of 25,000 – with details also repeated on its website.
