Moon Over Buffalo at Cronulla

Moon Over Buffalo at Cronulla

The second production for 2016 at Arts Theatre Cronulla is Ken Ludwig’s Moon Over Buffalo. Director Tom Richards has assembled a talented cast to carry off this comic play.

Combining slapstick and sexual innuendo with comic farce, the play is a madcap journey of mistaken identity, matrimonial crisis, human foibles and on-stage and backstage theatrical hilarity.

The play centres on George and Charlotte Hay, fading stars of the 1950s. At the time the play is set, they are performing Private Lives as well as Cyrano De Bergerac in a rep theatre company in Buffalo, New York State. On the brink of a disastrous split-up caused by George’s dalliance with a young ingénue, they receive word that they might just have one last shot at stardom: Frank Capra is coming to town to see their matinee. If he likes what he sees, he might cast them in his movie remake of The Scarlet Pimpernel. Unfortunately for George and Charlotte, everything that could go wrong does. The situation is not helped by a visit from their daughter’s clueless fiancé, hilarious uncertainty about which play they’re actually performing, and Charlotte’s deaf stage-manager mother who hates every bone in George’s body.

Experienced ATC actors include Lynda Leavers as Charlotte Hay and Emmanuel Nicolaou as husband George, who dperform the main roles, together with Gary Clark as Richard, Allanah Jarman as Ethel and Julia Hunt as Roz. Newcomers to the theatre are Camila Ponte-Alvarez and Eileeen, Daniel Cawthorn as Harold and Luke Austin as Paul.

The show runs till 11 June, 2016. Full details and online bookings can be made via the theatre’s website:  www.artsthetrecronulla.com.au
