Iconic Aussie Play Away for Sydney’s North Shore

Lane Cove Theatre Co opens its 2016 season with Michael Gow’s iconic and much loved Australian play, Away, from 18 March to 9 April at The Performance Space, St Aidan’s in Longueville.

Set against the backdrop of the Vietnam War, AWAY is a nostalgic look at Australia and Australians separated by diversity and drawn together by conflict. Audiences will be inspired by Gow’s story of three different families on Christmas vacation in 1967. 

WA Theatre Takes High Fidelity Musical for a Spin

A JOURNEY through the world of break-ups, make-ups and music obsession provide insights into the world of relationships at Roleystone Theatre during March 2016.

Based on the Nick Hornby book, High Fidelity has been adapted into a musical and explores love, life and the importance music plays as the soundtrack to both.

The story follows Rob Gordon, a Brooklyn record shop owner in his 30s who is obsessed with making top five lists for everything and always observing, rather than participating, in life.

Calamity For Rockdale - Whip, Crack, Away!

Adapted from the movie starring Doris Day, featuring the Oscar-winning song "Secret Love", Rockdale Musical Society presents Calamity Jane from 4 to 13 March at Rockdale Town Hall.

A toe-tapping, tune-humming, feel-good hit for almost 60 years, the title role has starred such luminaries as Carol Burnett and Barbara Windsor in stage productions.

Limelight Double Bill: Fairytale Farce and Newspaper Comedy

A COMEDY about a newspaper and Cinderella – as you’ve never seen her before – are the subject of two short plays at Limelight Theatre (WA) during February 2016.

Written and directed by former journalist, sub-editor and chief-of-staff Bob Charteris, Don’t Shoot The Messenger is set in a present-day newsroom as management decides the newspaper should become completely digital.

The story is seen through the eyes of two veteran journalists who yearn for a return to the “good old days” of journalism.

Proof at Arts Theatre Cronulla

The first production for 2016 at Arts Theatre Cronulla is David Auburn’s winner of the 2001 Pulitzer Prizefor Drama and Tony Award for Best Play, Proof, directed by Gavin Leahy, with a set designed by ATC stalwart Jimmy Bruce.

Proof explores the unknowability of love as much as the mysteries of high-level mathematics, in a thought-provoking night at the theatre.

Behind the Scenes of Gone With the Wind at Heidelberg

Heidelberg Theatre Company goes behind the scenes of one of Hollywood’s greatest blockbusters with their February / March 2016 production of  Moonlight and Magnolias.

Legendary film producer, David O. Selznick is five weeks into shooting Gone With the Wind when he realizes that the script is awful and that the director doesn't have a clue. He has five days to replace them and restart the shoot  or the production will close down.

Avenue Q: Sesame Street for Adults!

A NAUGHTY musical romp through the ABCs of life – described as “Sesame Street for adults” – is the March 2016 offering from Dark Psychic Productions in Hmilton Hill, WA.

Directed by Jayde Clark at Phoenix Theatre, Avenue Q is an outrageous parody that is confronting while having a child-like direct and honest appeal.

The musical focuses on the life of Princeton, who finishes university and moves out into the big wide world.
