Urinetown The Musical: A Privilege to Pee!

The Regals Musical Society (NSW) is producing the award winning satirical musical Urinetown from May 17 – 25. After premiering Off Broadway in May 2001, the musical transferred to Broadway, where it played for two and a half years, winning three Tony Awards including Best Book and Best Score.

Diva Doctor Stars in CLOC Phantom

When CLOC Musical Theatre’s World Amateur Premiere of The Phantom of the Opera hits the stage of St Kilda’s National Theatre on Friday May 10, Laura Slavin will appear as Christine Daae.

A doctor by profession, working in a major inner city hospital, Laura has successfully balanced performing with medical school and a busy professional life as a medical registrar since graduation.

Eurobeat Prepares Penrith for Eurovision

Penrith Musical Comedy Company (NSW) presents Eurobeat – Almost Eurovision at the Q Theatre, Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre this May. Fresh of their sold out season of Hairspray last year the company wants their audience to come and laugh out loud at this take-off of Eurovision, ahead of the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest mid-May.

The Challenge of Dressing Phantom at CLOC

Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera is almost as well known for its visual splendour and special effects as for its score.

Sets and costumes combine in this show with voices, performances and plotline to produce an all encompassing piece of theatre that is a joy to all the senses.  

Engadine Musical Society on the Yellow Brick Road

Engadine Musical Society will head down the yellow brick road to Sutherland Entertainment Centre from May 15 – 19 for their production of The Wizard of Oz.

Cast members Susie Hoggard, Chiz Watson and Lauren Beatson shared their thoughts on this much-loved classic with Stage Whispers.

The production is quite a family affair for the Hoggards (pictured left): Susie Hoggard is playing Glinda, son Tyler is playing Tinman and daughter Sarah is in the Adult Ensemble.

Drugs, Sex and Popaganda Parody in Queensland Musical Premiere.

Phoenix Ensemble is set to take audiences on a wild trip of drugs of debauchery – but it’s all in the name of poking fun at propaganda.

Reefer Madness, playing at Beenleigh’s Pavilion Theatre for five weekends in May and June, is a parody musical inspired by a 1936 ‘educational’ film of the same name. The Phoenix production marks its Queensland premiere.

Nevermore: Edgar Allen Poe Musical for Perth

A mysterious new musical based on the life, loves and creative passions of Edgar Allen Poe, Nevermore will be staged by Playlovers (WA) from May 3 – 18, 2013.

The lyrics to the songs and much of the dialogue of Nevermore have been taken from Poe’s poetry and prose, with the splashes of his macabre stories.

St Trinian’s Musical Romp for Redcliffe Stage

St Trinian's, the fictional girls’ school created by English cartoonist RonaldSearle in 1941, best remembered through a popular series of comedy films, is also the basis for David Barrett musical comedy, which will be presented by Mousetrap Theatre Company (Redcliffe, Queensland) from May 10 – 25.
