Perfect Wedding at Cronulla

Perfect Wedding at Cronulla

Imagine you are waking up in the bridal suite of a gracious country-house hotel somewhere outside London. Imagine you are the bridegroom, due to be married that very day. Imagine that you roll over and find an attractive woman in bed beside you – but it is not your fiancé! You now have a perfect picture of the opening scene of a Perfect Wedding by Robin Hawdon, the new production at Arts Theatre Cronulla.

Combining riotous farce peppered with witty one-liners with what is ultimately a touching love story, the scenes play with subterfuge and deception as bridegroom Bill (Nick Mercer) attempts to conceal the situation from his bride Rachel (Kerstyn Walsh), aided by his best man Tom (Craig Reeve) and reluctant help from hotel chambermaid Julie (Rachael Williams).

While he can remember his buck’s night from the evening before, Bill can’t remember meeting his bed-mate Judy (Debra Ades). He decides that the only way out of the impending crisis is to persuade Tom to pretend that the girl is, in fact, his new girlfriend. But this presents its own set of complications. Into the mix of ensuing confusion and identity swapping, add mother of the bride Daphne (Narelle Jaeger) to add even more misperception and merriment to the mix. It takes the initially obliging but ultimately exasperated chambermaid to bring a halt to the shenanigans and reveal the truth, despite the inevitable consequences for the anything-but-perfect wedding.

Arts Theatre Cronulla is delighted to introduce a new group of young, multi-talented actors in this production. While most have experience in television, film and musical theatre, it is the first time treading the boards for some.

Director Tom Richards has been delighted with how well the cast has adapted to the new medium, and their hard work is evident. Reaction to early previews prove that this will be a certain hit with audiences, who can’t help but get caught up in the on-stage hilarity.

Opening night Friday 24 July; close Saturday 5 September.

Shows on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evenings plus two Sunday afternoon matinees.
