Virginia Woolf Honours Memory of Theatre Veteran

Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? at the Old Mill Theatre (WA) from October 11, 2012 will honour the memory of a much-loved member of the theatre community.

Director Garry Lawrence’s wife Beverley was originally cast in the play two years ago by Sue Hayward – but Hayward was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer and died suddenly before the play reached the stage.

“At the time, I thought the play should have run as a dedication to Sue, who had done so much for local theatre,” Lawrence said.

Modern Cairns Pirates into Bonding

Peter Pan Musical flies in for Central Coast Season

Peter Pan, like its namesake, is a story that never grows old. Children and adults alike fall under the spell of Neverland, a place where children can fly and exciting, frightening adventures happen every day.

Wyong Musical Theatre Company plans to  transport NSW Central Coast audiences to Neverland from September 21 to 29, with Peter Pan the British Musical.

Local Theatre Hero

In Melbourne, the 2012 Frankston Relay for Life has being named in memory of local theatre identity Sue Dyer. 

Sue was a founding member of PLOS, later becoming a Life Member as well as holding the position of President for a number of years.

The Relay for Life is run for cancer research and support programmes. The organising committee have named Sue Dyer OAM as the inaugural Local Hero. 

PLOS is extremely proud that Sue is being honoured and remembered in this way. 

After a long battle with Illness, Sue passed away in November 2010.

Theatrical Duo Getting All Shook Up at CLOC

With its October production, Melbourne’s CLOC Musical Theatre is preparing to take a nostalgic and hilarious trip back to the days of slick hair, smooth talk, cool dudes – and hip swivelling rockin’ good times!

All Shook Up is a new musical set in the 1950s and based around the songs of Elvis Presley, featuring nearly 30 of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s biggest hits woven into a story of mistaken identity, mixed up romance and true love.

Game on in Sleuth at Limelight

Limelight Theatre (WA) presents Anthony Shaffer’s 1971 Tony Award winning thriller Sleuth from September 27 to October 13, 2012.

The play follows mystery writer Andrew Wyke, who lures his wife’s lover Milo Tindall to his manor house where he harbours an obsession for inventions and deceptions of fiction and a fascination with games.

The plot thickens when Wyke puts a proposition to Milo he finds hard to resist and Inspector Doppler, Detective Sergeant Tarrant and PC Higgs become involved in the chain of events.

Hairspray: Tales of man in a fat suit and high heels.

Penrith welcomes the 60s when the Penrith Musical Comedy Company presents their production of Hairspray from August 31, 2012.

This musical which inspired the popular 2007 movie of the same name, contains everything to make for a memorable and enjoyable show. Not only is there singing, dancing, a mum played by a man, forbidden love and a spoilt brat who gets her comeuppance, there’s also an important message about equality, loving yourself for who you are, and making the most of life.

JYM Plays a Love Song

JYM Theatre Company (Vic) follows its sell-out season of Avenue Q with its inaugural play season. Staging Marvin Chernoff's play, Chaim’s Love Song from September 1- to 9, 2012, JYM is excited to be tackling a new style of show and also taking on the challenge of producing two shows in the one year.

Says producer and company founder Shlom Eshel, “over the last ten years JYM has grown from strength to strength. I have a dedicated team and many supporters...it was the right time to expand.”
