2012 Green Room Awards Winners

The big winner at the 2012 Green Room Awards, presented at Melbourne’s Comedy Theatre on May 6, 2013, was Gale Edwards’ production of Chess for The Production Company, taking out seven of a possible 10 awards in the Music Theatre categories, including Outstanding Musical Production. Opera Australia’s Salome was recognized with five awards across the nine opera categories. Victorian Opera was also recognized with three awards, including two for new work Midnight Son.

In the theatre categories, Persona, produced by Fraught Outfit and Theatre Works, dominated the Independent sector with five out eight awards on offer. Theatre Companies awards were more evenly spread. While On The Misconception of Oedipus, produced by Malthouse & Perth Theatre Co. received three awards, MTC’s Top Girls took out two awards including best production and Bell Shakpeare’s Macbeth received two design awards.

Both best production and artiste awards in the cabaret went to Spanky’sCandice McQueen: Nasty!

Black Project 1 (Chunky Move) and2 One Another (Sydney Dance Company) headed the awards in the dance categories with two each.
