One Night Only of Hogwarts and Plant Genitalia

One Night Only of Hogwarts and Plant Genitalia

Not forgetting love, dysfunction and every other subject that inspires Musical Theatre writers. Coral Drouyn looks at one of our most original Music/Lyric combos and their new show The Songs of Mackenzie- Spencer and Strano.

We no longer question the depth of Musical Theatre talent in Australia….and a good thing too. With Matthew Robinson, Hedger and Nicholson and a slew of other brilliantly talented young musicians, Loclan and Andrew can …and I’m reliably told…DO “Hold their own” in any company. It’s only the lack of development infrastructure….largely time and money, that stops us from seeing the songs of these two and others on the Main Stage. It’s a sad fact that we COULD be, but aren’t, seeing musicals created entirely in Australia. No-one doubts we are up to that standard…and yet it’s an almost impossible task. But, in a way, that’s a gift – because we don’t have to pay $100 plus a seat for this home grown talent.

With Loclan as Musical Director – the two have entrusted their music to their friend and collaborator Casey Gould, for a special ONE NIGHT ONLY performance at my favourite Chapel Off Chapel next Monday 20th at 8pm.

Before you even ask….NO…this is not the writers performing their own work. This is an absolute plethora of Musical Theatre royalty making us laugh, cry and even think.

Fem Belling (Tracy; Hairspray original West End cast, Liza Minelli; The Boy From Oz, Mabel; Fame West End), Andrew Broadbent (Jersey Boys, Love Never Dies, South Pacific, Once), Stefanie Jones (The Sound Of Music, Once, South Pacific), Rebecca Moore (Motherhood!: The Musical),  Mike McLeish (Keating!, Miracle City) and Rob Tripolino (La Cage Aux Folles, Pirates of Penzance, The Addams Family, A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum. West Side Story and a musical composer in his own right)

And if all that isn’t enough to tempt you, Loclan has assembled a band of some of our best pit musicians to accompany these great voices.

With many theatres dark on Monday night it’s a chance for other performers as well as music lovers to see this fabtastic (not a typo…a NEW word) one-off performance by these green room award winning writers, and the Loft at C off C is the perfect venue, but it is fair to warn you that seating is limited so don’t expect to buy at the door….you might not get in. Book today and be there or live to regret it. I plan on having NO regrets.
