Aussie Who Conquered Broadway

With news that Broadway is officially closed until 2021, we speak with Carmen Pavlovic - the CEO of Global Creatures – producer of what was Broadway’s number two bestselling musical Moulin Rouge! In February Carmen was jet-setting to LA for the Grammys, back to Sydney to see her family, off to Bahamas for a conference, then New York and back to Sydney for her son’s birthday. Sydney Season of Frozen Postponed

Disney Theatrical Productions Australia has announced that "due to the COVID-19 situation globally, and in line with all current restrictions and advice from the Federal and State Governments, we have had to make the decision to postpone Frozen the Musical at the Capitol Theatre, Sydney until 1 December, 2020."

"Impacted customers have received an email (or will receive a phone call if no email was provided at purchase) explaining the process for transferring their tickets into a new performance and how to get a refund if required."

The Credeaux Canvas: Live Theatre Returns to Sydney

Lambert House Enterprises is presenting Sydney’s first play after lockdown, a season of Keith Bunin’s play The Credeaux Canvas at El Rocco Café and Theatre, Kings Cross from Thursday July 23rd.

Arts Industry Package

The Federal Government has announced details of a $250 million dollar package for the arts and entertainment sector to boost live performance, film and television production, that has been shut down by COVID-19.

A range of new grant and loan programs will roll out over the next 12 months to different parts of the arts sector to support the $112 billion creative economy and the more than 600,000 Australians it employs.

Tony Winner Alan Cumming to Direct Adelaide Cabaret Festival 2021

Adelaide Festival Centre has announced acclaimed cabaret and all-round performer, writer and social activist Alan Cumming as the Artistic Director for Adelaide Cabaret Festival 2021. 

Alan Cumming will be the first-ever international Artistic Director in the festival’s history when Adelaide Cabaret Festival celebrates its 21st anniversary next year.  

His appointment was announced on the final night of Adelaide Cabaret Festival 2020: Bite-Sized & Home Delivered, the online offering in place of the 2020 festival.

Venue Restrictions Eased

The ghost lights might be switched off sooner than expected in Australia's theatres, with news that the limit of 100 people on indoor gatherings will be scrapped.

Under changes announced today (June 12) by the Prime Minister, venues will still be required "sometime during July" to allow for four square metres of space per person, under revised guidelines for the Coronavirus pandemic.

Outdoor venues - such as a football ground - will be allowed to host up to 10,000 people in a 40,000 seat venue.
