Submissions Open for 2015 Your Theatrics International Cabaret Contest

The Your Theatrics International Cabaret Contest (YTICC), previously the Australian Cabaret Showcase, will once again undertake heats in major cities across Australia and New Zealand in January 2015. The 12th annual contest will offer contestants a number of exciting developments including a number of new sponsors who will contribute to the ever growing prize package.

Sweet Charity Melbourne Dates

Arts Centre Melbourne is delighted to announce that Sweet Charity, the smash-hit production, will play from 25 February – 8 March 2015 as part of a national tour.

After premiering at Hayes Theatre Co in February 2014 Sweet Charity received rave reviews, played to a sold-out audience, and won three Helpmann Awards, including Best Female Actor in a Musical for Verity Hunt-Ballard. Now it’s Melbourne’s time to experience the rough, wrenching, and gorgeous musical theatre experience that left Sydney wanting more!

Merrigong Theatre Company Season 2015

Merrigong Theatre Company has launched its 2015 Season, a year of theatre in Wollongong and surrounds, that celebrates the art of great storytelling.

Highlights include classic Australian stories, two productions from the UK, a musical, family fun, circus, and an interactive show where audience members can choose their own audio adventure.

La Boite Season 2015

For its 90thbirthday year, La Boite Theatre Company has unveiled what it describes as the most culturally diverse 2015 season to grace any stage in the country, ranging from star-studded classics to a story of a Congolese child soldier by one of Australia’s most exciting new playwrights.

Five of the ten writers and directors responsible for its new 2015 Mainhouse productions are women and half of the actors come from non-Anglo backgrounds.

2015 COME OUT CHILDREN’S FESTIVAL

More than two million South Australian children have participated in Come Out since its inception in 1974 and next year hundreds of shows to tickle funny bones, stimulate young minds and engage youngsters in all sorts of wonderful ways will take place over nine days, from May 22 – 30 in the Come Out Children’s Festival 2015. State Opera SA’s final opera for 2014, Otello, has been a story about strong passion and deadly intrigue but SOSA’s 2015 season, themed ‘For the Love…’ will begin with the lighter side of love, Mozart’s timeless and fabulous Don Giovanni. Lesley Reed reports.

Staged ‘for the love of pleasure’, The Goran Jarvefelt production of Don Giovanni will feature sumptuous sets and wonderful costumes and is expected to delight opera newbies as well as seasoned opera-goers.

Jemma Rix has been playing Elphaba in Wicked since 2008. That’s six years of defying gravity, covered in green make-up. When Jemma spoke to Neil Litchfield, he began by asking how she keeps her performance fresh after so long, and how she copes with the make up.
