OZMADE MUSICALS 2012: CELEBRATING TEN AWARD-WINNING YEARS

OzMade Musicals- Monday 27 August @ The Comedy Theatre

OzMade Musicals is a celebration of Australian musical theatre and the all singing, all dancing stars who put the razzle in its theatrical dazzle. To mark the ten year anniversary of MAGNORMOS in 2012, OzMade Musicals returns to The Comedy Theatre on Monday 27 August and will be partnered with a very special presentation commemorating the ten years of Magnormos productions. On the night – an exciting announcement for the 2013 Magnormos season will be made – an announcement direct from Broadway!

In the first half of the concert, OzMade Musicalswill shine a spotlight on established and upcoming Australian musicals, including debut performances from some of Australia's most exciting writers: Peter Fitzpatrick (flowerchildren), Anthony Constanzo (Life's A Circus) and Pratt Prize winner Matthew Robinson (Metro Street).

In the second half, to celebrate the ten-year anniversary, Magnormos presents a retrospective highlights concert The Last Ten Years featuring songs from the Magnormos history. 

Returning to the very first production Working, Magnormos will relive Mary Bryant, Life's a Circus, The Thing About Men, Flora the Red Menance, A Bunch of Ratbags, including the more recent award-winning productions of The Hatpin, [title of show] and flowerchildren.

Confirmed artists already include Jane Badler (TV's V and Mission Impossible), Sally Bourne (Moonshadow), Lyall Brooks (The Heretic), Jessica Enes (Paris), Laura Fitzpatrick (flowerchildren), Nicholas Kong (Spring Awakening), Michael Lidner (Mary Poppins), Samantha Morley (Billy Elliot), Ben Nicholas (TV's Neighbours), Chelsea Plumley (Kismet), Judith Roberts (Seven Little Australians), Matthew Robinson (My Fair Lady), David Spencer (Priscilla Queen of the Desert), Greg Ross (The Sound of Music), Lara Thew (Motherhood the Musical), Susan-Ann Walker (Cats) and Anne Wood (Mamma Mia!).

PARTNERS
 by Peter Fitzpatrick (flowerchildren) and Anthony Costanzo(Life's a Circus)
Beginning with the reunion of a wedding party 15 years later, the happiness unravels as the relationships do too… Created by the team who brought you Life's a Circus, and the book writer of the critically successful flowerchildren, Partners explores the psychological complexities and humour of a very modern kind of awkward situation, and the ways in which a group of people who care about each other attempt to deal with some quite unexpected dilemmas!

HAPPY PEOPLE
 by Matthew Robinson (Pratt Prize winner of Metro Street)
Recently receiving mentor assistance from Oscar and Grammy Award winning composer Stephen Schwartz,Happy People reveals the onstage/offstage life of a top-rating children's television group comprising of four members and their hugely popular suit character Edison the Elephant. The original cast are still intact and kept on a short leash by their fiercely passionate Executive Producer, but asHappy People launches the Tenth Anniversary Live National Tour - the happiness of the group quickly descends into chaos.

ABOUT MAGNORMOS

Recently awarded a special Green Room Award for Outstanding Commitment to Australian Musical Theatre Magnormos is a Melbourne-based independent theatre company. Magnormos is celebrated nationally and internationally for its unique and ground-breaking committment to the advancement of Australian musical theatre.

Established in 2002, Magnormos’ first production was an original Australianised adaption of Stephen Schwartz’s Working in collaboration with the Oscar and Grammy award winning composer of Wicked, Godspell and Pippin.

Magnormos has premiered a number of landmark international works including:

- Mel Brooks’ archy and mehitabel
 - DiPietro & Roberts' The Thing About Men.

Australian works include world premieres of Life’s A Circus, Love Equals, The Beauty Spot, and revivals of Mary Bryant, A Bunch of Ratbags and Dutch Courage.

In 2010 Magnormos produced the first production outside of the US of Broadway musical [title of show], which enjoyed a visit from members of the original Broadway company and the composer/lyricist Jeff Bowen. A recent success was the Melbourne premiere of the Australian musical The Hatpin and the world premiere of flowerchildren – the Mamas and Papas story starring Australian Idol winner Casey Donovan and The Voice sensation Matt Hetherington. The production was a critical and box office success and is now in development for a further commercial season.
