Despite the venue starting out as a tin shed and having been known by multiple names since the 1920’s, Star Theatres has been an enduring and well-loved host to Adelaide entertainment in all its forms, even as the theatre complex dealt with arts funding cuts, potential closure and other trials. Under the auspices of its indomitable Director, Adelaide entertainment guru Malcolm Harslett, the venue is soon to stage the 2016 season of its own successful Cabaret festival, Cabaret under the Star. The 2017 Malthouse Theatre program promises an anarchic and ribald season of five new Australian plays, eight world premieres and a cohort of rebellious international guests including:a new adaptation of The Elephant Man by Tom Wright,
 Little Emperors by provocative Chinese theatre maker
 Wang Chong, Wild Bore by three of the most notorious women on the international comedy circuit, Zoe Coombs Maar, Adrienne Truscott and Ursula Martinez, Heart Is
 A Wasteland by Indigenous theatre company Brown Cab Productions, Revolt. She Said.

Sydney’s Kings Cross of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s springs back to life in an immersive cabaret event across four floors of infamous former brothel 'The Nevada' (now The World Bar) during September and October 2016. Executive Producer Olivia Ansell chats to Neil Litchfield.

Lovers of independent theatre in Melbourne all knew and loved The Owl and The Pussycat Theatre, a strange little shop adorned with tiles depicting Edward Lear’s poem, with a flat upstairs and a bar under the stairs. It was the home of 5pound theatre, a repertory company of five talented young artists, whose creative director, Jason Cavanagh, found the home while looking for a place to live.
