Esther Hannaford to Play Carole King

As music icon Carole King celebrates her 75th birthday, the Broadway musical based on her rise to stardom has announced its leading lady.

Multi-award winning musical theatre star Esther Hannaford will play the legendary singer / songwriter in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, which begins its Australian premiere season at Sydney Lyric Theatre in September 2017.

2016 GLUGS THEATRE AWARDS

Sydney theatre group THE GLUGS - now celebrating their 50th year presented the 2016 GLUGS Theatre Awards at a ceremony on Monday 6 February 2017 at The Castlereagh Hotel in Sydney.

Big winner on the evening was the Bell Shakespeare / Griffin Theatre Company co-production of The Literati, with a total of five awards.

1984 – Australian Tour Cast Announced

Casting for the Australian tour of the West End production of the stage adaptation of George Orwell’s seminal novel 1984  has been announced.

Tom Conroy will play Winston in the Australian season, starring alongside Paul Blackwell, Terence Crawford, Ursula Mills, Renato Musolino, Guy O’Grady, Yalin Ozucelik and Fiona Press, which will play major seasons in Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra and Perth over a four month period.

FENCES is the story of Troy Maxson, a mid-century Pittsburgh sanitation worker who once dreamed of a baseball career, but was too old when the major leagues began admitting black players. He tries to be a good husband and father, but his lost dream of glory eats at him, and causes him to make a decision that threatens to tear his family apart.

FENCES is directed by Denzel Washington from a screenplay by August Wilson, adapted from Wilson's Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning play. 

 

Kip Gamblin Announced as The Bodyguard

Producers Michael Harrison, David Ian and John Frost have announced that Kip Gamblin will be playing the title role of The Bodyguard, Frank Farmer, in the Australian tour of the musical THE BODYGUARD. Kip is most known to Australian audiences for his roles in a wide range of television dramas including Home and Away, All Saints, Tricky Business, Dance Academy and most recently Neighbours. Kip later spent two years working as a series regular in the BBC London’s drama series Casualty.

Adelaide Festival’s Riverbank Palais

Interactive art in House of Mirrors, US singer-songwriter Kurt Vile, US chillwave artist Toro Y Moi and Aussie soul band The Bamboos are all set to rock the 2017 Adelaide Festival’s newest venue, the Riverbank Palais and surrounding Parc Palais, as part of its first program.

Violet for Adelaide Fringe

Everything’s coming up Violets for local theatre company Davine Interventionz. Already multi-award winning, the company hopes to wow Adelaide Fringe 2017 when it produces the musical Violet. Lesley Reed reports.

“Are you on the way or are you in the way?” is the central question posed in the musical Violet, which is the 2017 Adelaide Fringe production for South Australia’s Davine Interventionz.

2016 SYDNEY THEATRE AWARDS

The winners of the 2016 Sydney Theatre Awards were announced on Monday January 23, 2017 at the York Theatre at the Seymour Centre, with 35 Awards presented, shared between 15 productions which played in Sydney during the calendar year of 2016.
