WArdrobe Manager & Stylist Team Leader
We’re looking for a multi-talented superstar to take full ownership of the varied & eclectic role of Wardrobe Manager & Stylist Team Leader.
Fancy That! Costumes in Crows Nest has been styling the good people of Sydney in fancy dress costume for their social events since its creation in 1987. It began life as a boutique costume hire business. Under new ownership since 2011, it has expanded its hire wardrobe & extended into costume retail & balloons, all the while retaining that boutique feel, with an emphasis on quality & service that continues to differentiate it from the online-only players (see our reviews on Google).
Wardrobe Manager & Stylist Team Leader is a full-time position, requiring thorough knowledge of costuming, from historical eras to pop culture icons, & the ability to quickly dive into our wardrobe to produce costume options our customers will love. You’ll oversee maintenance & repairs (& sourcing where required), so sewing skills are essential. You’ll need to be supremely organised & thorough, holding yourself & a small team of casual stylists (2-3) to a high standard of work. You’ll need a strong yet empathetic personality to “meet people where they’re at”, & thrive on the buzz of helping people get excited about their event before they’ve even set foot in a change-room. Being able to multi-task like a demon with grace & good humour (especially during Halloween!) is also a must.
Like most things about this role, even the hours are unusual – Tuesday to Saturday, starting weekdays from 11am & finishing between 6 & 8pm, weekends from 10 - 4pm. Being located centrally in Crows Nest (on the bus line & 5 minutes walk from St Leonards station), there are plenty of gyms/yoga studios/cafes for you to avail yourself of in the mornings before work.
The incumbent team member is leaving on good terms after almost 5 years, to pursue more time flexible, creative performance work for herself, however will be instrumental in training up her replacement. Commencement is flexible March/April.
So if you’re creative, resourceful, responsible (& just a little bit crazy), looking for a varied role you can truly own, love & plan to stay in for at least several years, we encourage you to apply. The role requires a certain level of maturity, however prior fancy dress costume experience is not required (let’s face it, we’re unicorns!). Do read this advert thoroughly & carefully consider your suitability.
Forward your resume & whatever else you deem appropriate to introduce yourself to us, including what you see yourself bringing to the role to: firstname.lastname@example.org by Monday Feb 4. We will be inviting a shortlist of candidates to an initial group orientation, then conducting individual interviews.
