Are we the centre of our own universe or are there higher powers at work influencing our choices?

Formed in 2008 by five female creative minds isthisyours? is an inspiring theatre collective. I made the fortuitous decision to attend opening night of the company’s latest offering, Angelique, the result of a collaboration with writer Duncan Graham.

I want to share my secrets with you about how this show shattered all my pre-conceptions on the ways theatre can change you, but I fear I would damage the mystique.

What I will say is wear flat shoes, because you will hit the ground running as this tale quite literally immerses you in the central plot.

Instead of witnessing a story that has a beginning, a middle and an end, you get to decide how much you want to be involved, how much you want to be influenced by the characters and, finally, how much you want to reflect on the central message.

Director Tess Leong does an incredible job in steering this tight and talented ensemble.

Although one spends most of the time wondering what could possibly happen next, one feels strangely at ease with the direction you are being prompted to take.

Never have I experienced Her Majesty’s Theatre in quite this manner; a guided tour like no other and a play that delves into one’s innermost thoughts, creating many questions about our influences, motivations and anxieties.

This is a unique theatre experience which I urge you not to miss, but the choice is clearly yours.
