Blanc de Blanc

Blanc de Blanc
Strut & Fret. Aurora Spiegeltent at MAP57 – St Kilda’s Winter Garden. 15 June – 30 July 2017.

Settle in for a night of French-themed folly, full of saucy humour. This adults-only show brings together world-class circus and cabaret performers including unreasonably good looking MC Monsieur Romeo, wonderfully weird clown Spencer Novich and an array of bendy beauties to tickle your senses.

Milena Straczynski and Hampus Jansson’s aerial duet was a highlight, gliding out of the water in an impressive display of strength and grace. Shun Sugimoto’s unique blend of contortion and breakdance gives the show a contemporary twist (excuse the pun). The multi-talented Masha Teretieva intrigues the audience with her original acts using hula hoops and a hotel luggage cart. Aussie J’aiMime puts a comedic spin on tricks such as the giant balloon. This version of the cast is rounded out by Laura New, an LA-based Australian dancer.

The spiegeltent setting is enhanced by Philip Gladwell’s set which gives the cast a dynamic space to work in. Steve Toulmin’s soundtrack combines edgy modern songs with French classics such as Edith Piaf’s La Vie En Rose and of course crowd favourite, Voulez-vous coucher avec moi. Director Scott Maidment has built a global reputation with his company, Strut & Fret Production House, renowned for original productions that combine theatre and circus arts, to create unique experiences for audiences worldwide.

The show has already had successful seasons in London’s West End, an Australian Premiere at the Sydney Opera House, followed by Brisbane Festival, Adelaide Fringe, Gold Coast’s Bleach* Festival and Perth’s Regal Theatre. It’s now at MAP57 – St Kilda’s Winder Garden. While you’re there, head to the Tram Bar, a genuine vintage W-Class tram, for hot chocolate spiked with your choice of liqueur. It makes for a great mid-winter night out!
