Performed by Tim Quabba. Melbourne Fringe. Belleville, Globe Alley. Lighting and Sound by Zach Navarre. 26 September -1 October, 2016

Tim Quabba delivers an improvised stream of consciousness performance within the conceit of a dream. He takes cues from sound and lighting changes and the subtleties of audience reactions and creates characters and small narratives from them. We were presented with The Father, Alberto the dog, Fidel the eagle, a young couple contemplating love messages in the sky and the obsession of the age – data.

Tim anchored the characters to a specific place on the curved staircase to help the audience keep up with the changes in focus. There were some very strong moments, excellent physical mime and the occasional one-liners – ‘I may not be a chef, but I still have a palate’, and he kept up the pace for most of the 55 minutes.

He dropped into self-reflexive musing on occasion which did not always add to the performance but did get a warm response from the audience. The fluidity of stream of consciousness needs some boundaries to help navigate through the wash of ideas and the inconsistent use of accents created some confusion as the performance progressed.

Tim provides a rollercoaster of content driven by excellent acting and fabulous timing to deliver some pointed insights into the memes of the moment.
