Club Swizzle

Club Swizzle
Adelaide Festival Centre. The Space Theatre. 29 December 2015 – 17 January 2016

A combination of talent, originality and pizazz awaits you as you enter the world that is Club Swizzle. Four handsome and buff lads greet you with enthusiasm, promising you a wonderful evening ahead and with the help of an extraordinary company of performers, they deliver with aplomb.

Comedian Murray Hill hales from New York City and brings with him a razor-sharp wit; within seconds he has the audience in the palm of his hand and is responsible for most of the hilarious one-liners of the evening. He does a wonderful job of controlling the chaos around him and manages to keep the show flowing at a rollicking pace.

Joren Dawson, Tom Flanagan, DJ Garner and Ben Lewis are the ‘Swizzle Boys’; their flirtatious manner and hypnotic antics make for pure entertainment. Showcasing their strength with acrobatics and pole climbing was welcomed with raucous applause. A super-talented quartet of energy that mingled with the audience to the delight of many.

Burlesque performer Laurie Hagen was sizzling as she stumbled her way to the stage in Act one with what could only be described as a naughty drunken striptease. Hilarious and imaginative, her act was enhanced by the side-splitting antics she displayed. Her second number, known as the reverse striptease was understated and incredibly sexy. Precise choreography and artistry made this one of the evening’s highlights.

Moscow born Valerie Murzak carries on the steaminess as she demonstrates her agility and strength balancing on an enormous mirror ball. Creative routines were visually stunning.

A show of this calibre would not be complete without a soundtrack to aspire to. Mikey and the Nightcaps deliver with high-octane tunes that keep you moving long after the performers have left the stage. Strings, percussion, brass, accordion and piano provide a rambunctious array of melodies that add flavour to an already dazzling production. Vocals were flawlessly delivered by Ali McGregor and Dandy Wellington. McGregor’s vocal range, comic timing and beautiful wardrobe were captivating. Jazz was brought to life by Wellington as he tapped his way through each number.

The producers have done a fine job in bringing this collaboration together. Leave your inhibitions at the door, for you have not had this much fun in ages. Club Swizzle is pure magic and not to be missed.
