Comedy of Errors.

Comedy of Errors.
The Australian Shakespeare Company. Shakespeare Under the Stars. Written by William Shakespeare. Directed by Glenn Elston. Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne. December 21, 2010 - March 12, 2011.

If you're one of those people who stays away from Shakespeare believing him impenetrable, then you've probably never seen his plays performed well.

As Comedy of Errors is one of his less well-known plays, some background will help.

Egeon of Syracuse (played by the instantly recognizable Ross Williams) has four sons, two sets of twins. Through a shipwreck 25 years ago, he is separated from two of his sons, leaving him with one half of each pair of twins. Through chance, two of the brothers stumble into the city where their twins live. Confusion reigns as the brothers are mistaken for their counterparts.

Syd Brisbane and Brendan O'Connor as the two Dromios create characters you'll fall in love with because they make you laugh so much.

NEW AND NOTEWORTHY: Understudy Glenn Ferguson, a WAAPA graduate [link to feature TK], made an impressive professional debut as Antipholus of Ephesus. Alongside accomplished actors, he seemed just as much a veteran. As a guide, if someone from WAAPA is involved, expect it to be good.

The only downside of seeing a Shakespeare production of this quality is that you will never tolerate inferior Shakespeare again.
