Diamond & Gallagher: Getting Down and Brassy.

Diamond & Gallagher: Getting Down and Brassy.
Midsumma Festival 2011. fortyfive downstairs (Vic). January 21 - January 29, 2011.

In their latest show, Dolly Diamond and Luke Gallagher take the audience on a camp musical romp through seven decades of hits, starting in the 1930s.

After "Let's Do the Time Warp Again", Diamond and Gallagher encounter the Ghost of Music Past Years (GOMPY). GOMPY makes them relive the songs of the ages so that the pair learn to respect their musical forebears.

Gallagher is the poster boy for being well adjusted and gay. Gay in the old-fashioned sense of happy (his sincere smile never leaves his face) and gay in the 1960s sense: homosexual. In fact, the only way he's not gay is in the current teen usage, where "that's gay" means "that sucks".

From the fifteen-piece brass band to Gallagher's showmanship, from Diamond's drag queen bitchiness (mock, of course) to the banter between the two, this is a show that will have you laughing and, often, singing along.

This is goofball cabaret, all lighthearted. Both Diamond and Gallagher sing well, but their focus is on making sure you have a good time. And they'll do whatever it takes to get the laughs.
