Gazillion Bubble Show

Gazillion Bubble Show
Out of the Box Festival. Concert Hall, QPAC. 23-27 June 2016

Bubbles are magical and this show takes it to the extreme filling the theatre with thousands of them. It’s spectacular, dazzling and as an introduction to theatre for kids it’s the perfect show.

Created by Fan Yang, who’s become something of a bubble master earning eleven unique Guiness world records for his bubble artistry, the show has become an institution in New York where its been playing Off-Broadway for nine years. It’s also become a family franchise with Yang’s wife, brother and children getting in on the act and travelling the world producing versions of it internationally.

Twenty-five year old Daughter Melody Yang has been blowing bubbles since she was four and is the star of this well-oiled Australian production. To a soundscape of Enya and Cirque du Soleil- sounding music she created transparent large bubbles, small bubbles, bubbles within bubbles that spun, smoky bubbles and bubbles in a multitude of colours that drew gasps of awe and cheers from the moppet audience.

When they were exhorted to cheer and to cheer loudly they did so at such ear-piercing levels that even some of the young kids were seen putting their hands over their ears.

When the show sagged mid-term Ms Yang pulled the old audience participation trick out of her bubble hat by inviting four kids up onstage to participate and then encasing them in a huge bubble.

The penultimate effect was a brilliant laser coloured light show which set the kids up for the spectacular grand finale of filling the entire venue with bubbles.

To say the audience filed out of the theatre bubbling with enthusiasm was an understatement.
