THE KRANSKY SISTERS

THE KRANSKY SISTERS
Cremorne Theatre, QPAC, as part of the “In Stiches” Comedy Festival

It’s almost two years since The Kransky Sisters played Brisbane, and judging by their first night reception they’ve been greatly missed. Working basically the same material they introduced on their last visit, the three dour “sisters” get plenty of laugh mileage out of small-town Australian foibles and characters. The humor is clever, sometimes black, but mostly just plain funny. In between the anecdotes of their hometown Est, Queensland, and their adventures traveling, they accompany themselves on tuba, guitar, and musical saw, and massacre (in their own inimitable style), popular songs like “Aquarius,” “Sweet Dreams,” and “Highway To Hell.” Audience participation is part of the act, and at one time they bring a young guy up on stage, dress him in Kransky Sisters drag (black wig, skirt, and severe blouse), and have him play the triangle with them. The situation is milked for maximum laughs. A fixture on the comedy festival circuit, they’re fast becoming a national institution. Peter Pinne
