The Leftovers

The Leftovers
By Kyle Kash. Rag and Bone Theatre Group. Directed by Jane Sherwood. The Hellenic Club, Fringe World, Perth, WA. Jan 24 - Feb 3, 2015

The Leftovers, by Kyle Kash, presented by Rag and Bone Theatre Group, as part of Fringe World Festival, is a series of connected vignettes about people dealing with loss and grief. Stories of death, and those who are 'leftover'.

Despite the dark subject matter, The Leftovers is easy to watch, with many moments of humour. The audience found lots at which to laugh, but there is also much food for thought.

The cast of seven work superbly well as an ensemble, with lovely fluidity and teamwork. Emily Botje shines with her impressive, clear, rapid-fire delivery and megawatt smile, Danni Close brings depth and thought to some lovely monologues as does Bree Vreedenburg in a very moving story of loss and guilt. Richard Mangana is impressive in a number of roles, while Dylan Searle acts with passion. Ron Arthurs is excellent as a lonely man dying of AIDS while David Mitchell embodies youthful optimism and an ability to overcome adversity.

The audience really enjoyed this well-presented Fringe World production, a nicely written exploration of the effects of loss.
