Les Misérables
This absolutely sumptuous production is the most lavish musical to hit Perth in recent years. Beautifully presented, it is exquisitely acted and the singing is just wonderful.
Matt Kinley's sets, inspired by the artwork of Victor Hugo, give an epic quality to this classic novel turned musical - and are a key part of why those who think that they have seen Les Mis should take a look at this new production - which has a different feel to the previous tours.
Simon Gleeson is a warm, strong, heroic Jean Valjean, delivering a show-stopping rendition of ‘Bring Him Home’. He has the perfect adversary in Hayden Tee's Javert, in a beautifully complex portrayal with a heartstopping performance of ‘Stars’.
The women are outstanding. Patrice Tipoki is a fragile but determined Fantine, Emily Langridge is a sweetly delicate Cosette and a lovely contrast to her WAAPA classmate Kerrie Anne Greenland's tomboyish and vocally different Eponine.
Euan Doidge is a gorgeous romantic lead as Marius, while Chris Durling is amazing as idealistic Enjolras.
Trevor Ashley and Lara Mulcahy were wonderfully broadstroke Thenardiers, welcome comic relief, with expert darkness and outstanding timing.
A first class ensemble had the audience on the edge of their seats.
Musically brilliant - this show has an operatic feel of the best possible kind. It is vital, emotionally engaging and a joy to watch. I implore you to see this production.
