Neel Kolhatkar

Neel Kolhatkar
Arkaba Hotel. Adelaide Fringe. 20-21st Feb, 2016

You-tube and social media sensation Neel Kolhatkar is one of Australia’s favourite comedians at the moment. His millions of views guaranteed him a sold out show and if tonight is anything to go by a successful season.

He gives you his unique perspective on life, dating, relationships and current events with hilarious consequences. Treading a fine line at times with his humour, it is safe to say his Indian heritage helps make some of his material funny rather than offensive. He is not afraid to mock his nationality or anyone else’s for that matter. He pokes fun at society’s norms and absurd traditions from a Gen Y perspective.

Presenting his young audience with new material not released on You-tube was well received. Constant laughter filled the room. He was not afraid to interact with the audience, which produced some unscripted amusing interactions. When relaying stories he was able to slip in and out of accents, providing depth and side-splitting hilarity.

At the tender age of 21, Kolhatkar clearly has a big future in comedy; his comic timing is impeccable! The ease with which he relates to his audience made it clear he was confident with his material. With no pretence to speak of, his self-deprecating humour appealed too many.
