The Patrick Pearse Motel

The Patrick Pearse Motel
By Hugh Lennard. Players Theatre, Ballina. Director: Sue Belsham. September 9th – 18th, 2016

Sue Belsham makes a welcome return directing this Irish Farce; full of blarney and shillelaghs and not a leprechaun in sight!

With acceptable Irish accents (which easily rolled of their tongues) the cast of Brook Lacy, Daniel Richards, Jaime Sheehan, Mike Sheenhan, Carl Moore, Mechelle Anderson and Mike Harris brought the Gaelic humour to life.

The plot is full of everything that makes a good farce: innuendo, compromising situations and mistaken identities.

As with many farces; it took a while for the characters and the plot to be interwoven but by the second act the goings on at the Patrick Pearse Motel were full on laughs.

A workable set and reliable technical support added to the enjoyment of the performance.

The Players Theatre is an ideal venue for shows of this nature with a welcoming ambience that adds to the ‘Ballina’ experience.

An enjoyable piece of theatre.
