re:Loaded 2015 is the debut production from Co3, Western Australia's new contemporary dance company. Co3 is the result of an amalgamation of Buzz Dance Theatre and STEPS Youth Dance Company, and in addition to producing contemporary dance performance, Co3 aims to engage with education, youth and the community at large. Their first production shows that this is a fresh and exciting dance company.

re:Loaded 2015features dance works as well as some incidental performances, includingGlimpse - choreographed by Brooke Leeder for the Co:Youth Juniors as a site specific work for the Heath Ledger Theatre Foyer. It was a wonderful support act for the work in the auditorium.

Transducer, choreographed by Larissa McGowan, features six dancers exploring how the energy of one person affects another. High energy and dynamic, it works well with the discordant, electrically nuanced composition of Charlie Chan.

Choreographer Gavin Webber describes What's Left as a work that deals with the complexity of emotions surrounding climate change. This three person, beautifully presented, work is  intriguing and moving and provides much food for thought.

The second act features two separate but linked pieces, both based on Maurice Ravel's Bolero. Co:Youth Ensemble's Toro has a stage full of well-drilled young performers, with a Spanish flavoured work, which has excellent use of patterns. A piece that highlighted the skills of these many young performers of varied ages and experience. Highly engaging it was a pleasure to watch.

Finally, Carnivale is presented by the Co3 Company. Like the preceding piece it is choreographed by Raewyn Hill, but the music is Eden Mulholland's interpretation of Ravel's work. A unison dance piece, it is heartfelt and powerful and could be seen as a metaphor for the emergence, energy and drive of this new company.

Co3 promises an exciting future for contemporary dance in Western Australia and re:Loaded 2015 was a promising taste of what is to come.
