The Three Deaths of Ebony Black

The Three Deaths of Ebony Black
Fringe World 2018. The Shambles, Fringe Central, Perth Cultural Centre, WA. Feb 16-25, 2018

The Three Deaths of Ebony Black is a cute, offbeat and funny musical puppet show, based on the following quote by neuroscientist David Eagleman.

“There are three deaths. The first is when the body ceases to function. The second is when the body is consigned to the grave. The third is that moment, sometime in the future, when your name is spoken for the last time.”

The bitter-sweet tale of the life and death of a very ordinary, sweet old lady. Featuring at least ten gorgeously designed puppets by Danny Miller, we experience the lovely Ebony’s deaths in a series of scenes that run the gamut from tear-jerking through the bizarre to the hilarious.

Amberly Cull’s writing is extremely clever and Robert Woods’ music is outstanding. Robert also accompanies the show (when the puppets allow) and has a delightful cameo.

Performers Amberly Cull and Nick Pages-Oliver show impeccable teamwork and a slew of gorgeous characterisations. The singing is beautiful and the energy high.

The audience adored this loveable little gem of a show. Suitable for all ages, despite its dark premise, The Three Deaths of Ebony Black is a feel-good celebration of the eccentricities and importance of love and life.
