The Wiz

The Wiz
Adapted from L. Frank Baum’s novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. National Academy of Performing Arts. Director: Lynn Dyer, Choreographer: Kim Reynolds. Bi-Centenial Hall, Nerang, Gold Coast. October 13th – 15th, 2016

With a cast of over 90 young performers, The Wiz was the end of year production for the junior students of N.A.P.A. and they all performed like seasoned pros. This academy prides itself on producing triple threatartistsand the stage was literally “jumping” with munchins, monkeys and winkies.

Lynn Dyer, Kim Reynolds and Musical Director Steffi Kriz, rehearsed the cast to perfection and the capacity audience loved it.

Dorothy, Kalahni Spink; Scarecrow, Sebastian Andersen; Tin Man, Elysium Hipwood and The Lion, Michael Fryer all gave outstanding performances. Special mention must be made of Shaylee Gear as the Good Witch Glinda.

The logistics of having such a large cast are enormous but the performance went off without a hitch – which is a credit to all concerned.

N.A.P.A. produces several shows a year and all the students have their opportunity to develop their craft in a “professional” manner which sets them on the right “yellow brick road” to pursue their passion. It’s interesting to see many of these performers appearing in show across the Gold Coast and holding their own amid seasoned artists.
