You Should Be Dancing

You Should Be Dancing
By Everybody NOW! Presented by Darebin Arts Speakeasy in association with Melbourne Fringe. Main Hall, Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre. 20 -22 September, 2019.

The performance collective Everybody NOW! has a highly inclusive approach to its concept of dancing. This event brings together an eclectic collection of dance styles and performers who congregate to celebrate a wholesome, family-oriented activity. The show goes out of its way to welcome people of all ages, abilities, races and nations.

With a vast array of shiny, glittery costumes, dance moves and music styles the show proves to be a dazzling experience for the audience/participants. In the opening sequence the crowd is taught a great little disco routine which helps them to bond and commit them to a variety of community building dance lessons.

The range of dance performances includes Bollywood, Colonial, Samoan, Swing, Cabaret, Hip-Hop and Caribbean. Each performance group is able to strut their stuff and teach the audience a few fundamental steps that has them well on their way to full participation.

Many of the costumes are extremely elaborate and visually striking. The performance groups sometimes occupy the stage and frequently blend into the audience. The event is conducted by emcee Tessa Waters, alongside dance captain Bec Reid. Their collective enthusiasm is highly contagious and puts a smile on everyone’s face as they delight in being able to groove or move to some classic and contemporary tunes.

The classy venue is a great spacious location for this dance festival and allows participants to have a liberating, fun-filled experience.
