You’re My World - The Cilla Black Story

You’re My World - The Cilla Black Story
Fringe World. Directed by Danielle O’Malley. Downstairs at the Maj, His Majesty’s Theatre, Perth WA. Feb 7-11, 2017

In You’re My World - The Cilla Black Story, Danielle O’Malley transports us back to a Cilla Black Concert at the height of Cilla’s fame, a true celebration of the 1960s singing icon.

Presenting completely in character, Danielle O’Malley is an excellent Cilla, looking and sounding, very like the British songstress, also nailing a gorgeous Liverpudlian accent, and working comfortably with her band, pianist Justin Martins, bass player Wayan Bilionpdana and percussionist Jake Isard. Flirting with and chatting to the audience, we learn a great deal about Cilla - seemingly from her own perspective.

Eleven varied, nicely performed Cilla songs, with highlights including ‘Liverpool Lullaby’, ‘Sing a Rainbow’ and ‘What the World Needs Now’, with three cheers for the audience who provided excellent support in one number.

A great trip back in time that had appeal for old and new Cilla Black fans.
