Green Day’s American Idiot for Brisbane
American Idiot, the rock musical based on Green Day’s Grammy® Award-winning multi-platinum album, makes its way down under for its Australian premiere season at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC).
The Playhouse, QPAC will be transformed into a grungy mosh pit for the exclusive to Brisbane, Australian premiere season, running from 23 February 2017.
Winner of two Tony® Awards (for scenic and lighting design) and the 2010 Grammy® Award winner for Best Musical Show Album, American Idiot features an all-Australian cast and includes every song from Green Day's album American Idiot, as well as several songs from follow-up release, 21st Century Breakdown.
Developed by Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong and Tony Award®winner Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening), American Idiot tells the story of three lifelong friends who are grappling with the decision to either challenge the status quo and break out of their aimless rut or to remain in the safe confines of their suburban existence. Their quest for true meaning in a world full of violence and dissolution leads them on a journey of self-discovery, heartache, and revelation.
To helm this project is Australian Director Craig Ilott (Hedwig and the Angry Inch and Smoke and Mirrors).

The Australian premiere season of American Idiot coincides with Green Day’s official Australian tour.
