HOOK UP at Melbourne Fringe

HOOK UP at Melbourne Fringe

Gen Y has been known for its high-flying, carefree attitude to life. But now Gen Y is reaching the age where fleeting hook-ups and endless partying don’t cut it anymore. Many are starting to settle down, but relationships are confusing. They can be funny, tragic and just plain bizarre — especially when you are on the outside looking in. So, what comes next?

HOOK UP, based on the Short + Sweet Fringe Development Award winning piece LIASONS, is now a full-length mini-musical by Nick Hedger and Ben Nicholson. The original songs by this young musical theatre writing team add witty and edgy insight into this unexpected, dangerous and completely hilarious minefield.

The cast of HOOK UP features young theatre talents Michelle Brasier, Josh Ellwood, Laura Johnston and Vince Milesi as four different souls seeking a soul mate — or soul mates. Joined by their Narrator (Hedger), they strive to discover what they truly want, and the narrator gets one step closer to understanding this whole relationship thing.

Praise for Nick Hedger’s previous shows:

“[Hedger is a] frighteningly gifted composer/lyricist/arranger.” — Coral Drouyn, Stage Whispers

“Hedger’s original songs...were fabulous”  — Narelle Wood, Theatre Press

Nick Hedger and Ben Nicholson, are also the team behind the new monthly Melbourne showcase Home Grown.
