Next To Normal: WA Premiere for Bunbury.

Next To Normal: WA Premiere for Bunbury.

Director Glen Perks of the Bunbury Musical Comedy Group is carving out a reputation for bringing premiere productions to WA, having already brought the premiere of Blackbeard to the West in 2009.

Perks’ next show is Next to Normal, a multiple award winning emotional powerhouse of a musical by Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey with a thrilling contemporary score.

It tells the story of Diana Goodman (played by Michelle Brecken-Perks) as well as her dysfunctional family and their efforts to deal with Diana’s bipolar disorder amidst dealing with the loss of a loved family member.

A traditionally dark subject is brought to the stage with emotional intensity, satire and surprising humour with talented local cast members and crew.

It not only shines a light on the condition itself but also showcases the challenges to the family members in dealing with effects to the disease.

The original Broadway production won 3 Tony awards and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2010 (one of only 8 musicals to ever to win the award).

Cathy Bernard is at the helm as Musical Director and the production runs for 6 performances over two weekends with opening night on May 17 at the New Lyric Theatre in Bunbury.

Tickets are available from BREC ticketing. www.bunburyentertainment.com
