Emily Eyefinger Adapted for Stage

Monkey Baa Theatre for Young People have taken another much-loved Australian children’s story and turned it into a new stage production, opening at the Seymour Centre as school holiday entertainment from July 9 to 16 before touring. This time it’s the classic Australian series, Emily Eyefinger, by the multi-award winning children’s author, Duncan Ball, that has been adapted for the stage.

Emily Eyefinger is the story of a gifted young girl accepting her differences and finding peace within herself. Emily was born with an extraordinary gift – an eye on the end of her finger which means, for Emily, an adventure is around every corner. Yet despite her gift Emily struggles with being different. It’s not long before she is contemplating life without her special eye – and even considers surgical removal! As she ponders her dilemma, Emily and her best friend Malcolm embark on a huge adventure – solving the mystery of the Tomb of Tutenkamouse!

The Monkey Baa production of Emily Eyefinger has been adapted from the all the books in Duncan Ball’s popular series. Suitable for ages 5 and up, Emily Eyefinger is a fast-paced theatrical adventure, wrapped up with colourful characters and resonating themes of identity, respect, self worth and friendship.

The cast includes two of Monkey Baa’s Co-founders and Creative Directors, Sandra Eldridge and Tim McGarry, along with Dannielle Jackson as Emily, Douglas Hansell and Christopher Childs-Maidment. The production is directed by John Saunders, Mark Thompson is designer and Martin Kinnane is lighting designer.

Monkey Baa was formed in 1997 by a trio of actors, Tim McGarry, Sandra Eldridge and Eva Di Cesare. Based in Sydney, Monkey Baa aims to produce high quality theatre programs for young people, their families, teachers and communities throughout Australia and internationally.

Their goals are to adapt and create high quality new Australian work for young audiences nationally and internationally, and to present quality theatre workshop programs accessible to all young people.
